Back in 1998, then Mayor, Ed Rotchford, saw a need to provide financial support to students in the community who were pursuing post-secondary educational opportunities. He approached a group of local businessmen about starting a scholarship program, a Dollars for Scholars chapter. Now, as we enter our 21st year, we are proud of the progress we have made in increasing the number of scholarships offered as well as the dollar amount of the awards. Through successful fundraising, the scholarship awards have increased from $1,000 to $2,500. We offer seven $2,500 one-year Academic Scholarships, two $2,500 Academic Scholarships for students majoring in a science, math, computer technology, education, music or nursing program (the George and Christine Winandy Academic Scholarships), one $2,500 one-year Academic Scholarship for a student majoring in education or nursing (the Lyn J. Kearns Academic Scholarship), one $2,500 one-year Vocational/Trade School Scholarship and the Charles E. Priester Four-Year RENEWABLE Academic Scholarship, $2,500 per year for four years ($10,000 over the course of the scholarship).

Residents of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Mt. Prospect, Prospect Heights and Wheeling, Illinois are eligible to apply for scholarships offered by Scholarship Assistance Fund.

The Dollars for Scholars® program is part of a national organization, Scholarship America®.  With more than 700 chapters nationwide, Scholarship America's mission is to mobilize America, through scholarships and educational support, to make post-secondary success possible for all students.
